“If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.” (John 15:6) Scripture Reading – Matthew 23:23-36; Galatians 6:7 True faith is known by its fruit. False faith doesn’t produce fruit. It doesn’t accept the Father’s means of salvation, and it doesn’t involve itself in doing the works that Jesus did.These branches are not thrown into the fire because they are dead, but because they are fruitless. “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Scripture Reading – II Corinthians 1:3-11 The fruit produced by the branch is the same kind as the vine. It would be really weird if the branches of a grape vine produced oranges. The more we abide in Christ, the more we produce the fruit of Christ and will look like Christ. If we are continually abiding in Him, then what we desire will be the same as what Christ desires. The branches abiding in the vine cannot do anything on their own.
